May 12, 2018

BELLINGHAM, Wash. – Western Washington University junior Shearyna Labasan was named to the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) NCAA Division II All-West Region Team as a Second Team selection.

Labasan (Mililani, HI/Maryknoll) was selected to the team in the utility-pitcher role in voting conducted by NCAA Division II West Region head coaches. The junior was also one of 13 First Team All-Great Northwest Athletic Conference selections announced last week. Labasan is one of four GNAC players listed on the 25-player All-West Region Team. Labasan also earned All-West Region honors from D2CCA as a sophomore in 2017.

Labasan finished her junior season as one of the top two-way players in the conference as a third baseman, second baseman, starting pitcher and relief pitcher during WWU’s 15-32 season in 2018.

At the plate she led the team batting .421 (59-for-140) with 31 runs scored, 11 doubles, 4 home runs, 17 RBI and 22 walks. She ranks amongst the conference leaders in batting average (.421, 3rd), on-base percentage (.500, 2nd) and slugging percentage (.586, 5th), while also listed in the top 10 in hits (6th, 59), runs (10th, 31), doubles (T7th, 11), walks (T5th, 22) and total bases (T10th, 82). She recorded at least one hit in 34 of 46 games and led Western with 19 multi-hit games.

Labasan’s .421 batting average is 3rd-highest in WWU single-season history and her .373 career batting average (123-for-330) is the highest in program history (min. 250 at-bats).

In the circle she was 5-18 with 2 saves and a 3.48 ERA, tying for the GNAC lead with 18 complete games and tied for 2nd with 2 saves. She is also 5th in the conference in innings pitched (142.2) and games started (21), while tied for 3rd with 102 strikeouts.
