WWU Hoops Doubleheader at Carver Tonight

January 24, 2019

The Western Washington University basketball squads are back at home tonight for Great Northwest Athletic Conference action. It's a doubleheader at Carver Gym as the WWU women host top-ranked Northwest Nazarene followed by the Viking men battling Alaska Fairbanks.

The start of a 4-game homestand for the Western women (10-6/5-3 GNAC) tips-off in a huge way. The Vikings will look to hand the NNU Nighthawks their first loss of the season. At 16-0 overall and 8-0 in GNAC play this season, Northwest Nazarene is ranked No.1 in the nation in D2SIDA poll and No. 3 in the WBCA poll.

The Viking women will look to build off their last outing, a 75-67 road victory over Saint Martin’s on January 19th.  Despite getting swept last year by the Nighthawks, WWU leads the all-time series vs. NNU 30-to-11.

In the nightcap game the Western men will square off with a struggling Alaska Fairbanks squad. The Vikings (10-8 overall/4-4 GNAC) are in a three-way tie for 5th place in the conference and looking to add to the 6-game UAF losing streak.

WWU fell to Montana State Billings 81-72 in overtime at home in their last outing. Junior forward Trevor Jasinsky (Camas, WA) scored a game-high 24 points, and registered his second double-double of the season in the loss.

The Nanooks (4-11/1-7 GNAC) are tied for 10th place in the conference. Their last victory goes back more than a month to December 8th of 2018. WWU leads the all-time series vs. Alaska Fairbanks 32-14.

Tonight's doubleheader gets underway with the WWU women taking on NNU at 5:15pm. The Viking men will tip-off against Alaska Fairbanks at 7:30pm.
