Prep Football Week 7: Spotlight on Rematches

October 12, 2018

Week 7 of the prep football season features some big rematches as teams get closer and closer to the playoffs. On Friday 5 Whatcom County teams are playing an opponent for the second time this year.

Our OnTheDLN.com game of the week features a 1A showdown between Nooksack Valley (3-3) at Meridian (4-2). The Trojans won the first meeting between the two schools September 21st.  After trailing 14-0, Meridian rallied in the second half to win 21-14.

"They probably should have won that game and I'm sure they know that," said Meridian Coach Bob Ames. "They're really looking forward to a 3-and-0 finish here, so we just have to find someway to be able to slow them down.

There's a bit more of a chess match to a second regular season meeting.

"Both of us will look at each other and see how we played the other defensively and then you can kind of game plan around that, but with that you realize the other team is doing that so you're going to have change some stuff that you did defensively," said Nooksack Valley coach Rob Myhre.

Coverage between the Pioneers and Trojans on The Doug Lange Network begins at 6:45pm. Listen online here

8th ranked Mount Baker (4-2) visits No. 6 Lynden Christian (5-1) at 7pm Friday in another rematch. The Mountaineers and Lyncs are in a 3-way tie with Meridian for first place in the Northwest Conference 1A.

LC beat Baker 28-21 in the first go-round September 21st. The Lyncs scored 20 unanswered points in the final five minutes to get their first victory over the Mountaineers in 14 years.
