No. 15 Vikings Open GNAC Play Tonight

BELLINGHAM, Wash – The No. 15 nationally-ranked Western Washington University men’s basketball team takes a 5-1 records into its conference-opening games at Concordia and Western Oregon this week.

 

The Vikings open Great Northwest Athletic Conference play at Concordia (3-3) on Thursday on LCEF Court and continue south to take on conference rival Western Oregon (3-1) on Saturday in Monmouth in the New PE Building. Both games feature a 7 pm tip-off with live webcast and statistical updates via GNAC.tv.

 

WWU has won its last four games, entering the GNAC season with the second-best (tied) winning percentage amongst conference schools. The Vikings are coming off a pair of lopsided victories over Capilano (107-81) and Langara College (129-55) last weekend in the first regular-season home games of the season in Carver Gym.

ABOUT LAST WEEKEND

WWU opened the home slate with wins over a pair of Canadian schools, Capilano on Friday (107-81) and Langara College on Saturday (129-55)…the Vikings combined to shoot 56.9% in the two games, connecting on 91 of 160 shots from the field, and were 25-for-58 from 3-point range (43.1%)…junior guard Tucker Eenigenburg was the GNAC Player of the Week nominee averaging 21.5 points in the two wins (15-for-24 FG, 11-for-16 3FG), including a 28-point effort vs. Langara on 10-for-11 shooting (8-for-9 3FG)…Micah Winn (14.0), KJ Bosco (11.0), Elijah Cotton-Welch (10.5), Cameron Retherford (10.5) and Trevor Jasinsky (10.0) also averaged double-digits in points scored in the two games.

 

WHAT’S NEXT

Following the conference opening games this week, the Vikings will return to action next Saturday (Dec. 8) hosting Columbia Bible College (Abbotsford, BC) in a 5 pm contest inside Carver Gym…WWU will compete in the prestigious Hoops in Hawai'i DII Power Invitational Dec. 16-18 at the Hawai'i Convention Center in Honolulu, HI…Western’s next GNAC games are in the new year, hosting Seattle Pacific (Jan. 3) and Saint Martin’s (Jan. 5) on WECU Court in Carver Gym.
