Bells Complete Roster with 2 Pitchers and Catcher
April 9, 2019
BELLINGHAM, Wash. – The Bellingham Bells have added three more players to complete the squad’s 2019 roster. Yale freshman right-hander and third baseman Jimmy Chatfield, Western Oregon junior left-hander Logan Hatley and Umpqua Community College freshman catcher Josh Robbins will all head to Bellingham this summer.
Chatfield, a Yale commit, is a San Diego native currently studying at Carnegie Mellon. The five-foot-eleven-inch Chatfield was a four-year varsity starter at Frances W. Parker High School. A team captain in 2018, he was twice named first team All-Coastal League.
“Jimmy comes highly recommended to us. He is known for being a great athlete who can play both ways, which is hard to do at this level,” general manager Stephanie Morrell said. “He’s also known for being a high character guy who is a great teammate. We are thrilled to have Jimmy joining us this summer and to begin a new connection with the Yale baseball program.”
In addition to his success on the diamond, Chatfield was a two-time first team All-Coastal League lacrosse player and was a four-year honor roll student.
Hatley, from Dallas, Ore., begins his junior year at Western Oregon after spending time at Linn-Benton Community College, as well as Oregon State.
In 2017 at Linn-Benton, the six-foot-six-inch southpaw last went 7-3 with a 3.61 ERA in 11 starts. He struck out 65 batters, while only allowing 39 hits, in 62.1 innings of work.
“Logan is a tall, hard-throwing lefty who makes it hard to get on base,” Morrell said. “He has tremendous potential and we are excited to have him as part of our pitching staff this summer.”
Robbins, from Medford, Ore., comes to the Bells from Umpqua Community College after a standout high school career at North Medford High School.
“Josh is highly athletic and will bring depth to the catcher position,” Morrell said. “We know him to be a versatile, talented catcher who will do what it takes to help the team and we look forward to having him here in Bellingham.”
A four-year letter-winner for the baseball team, Robbins lettered in football and wrestling for three years, as well.
Chatfield, Hatley and Robbins will all head northwest this summer to join the Bells, who open the season on June 4 against the Kelowna Falcons at Joe Martin Field.
