2017-2018 Record: 11-1; 6-0 in League

 

After an 11-and-1 season and a trip to the 3A State Quarterfinals last season it will be a different look and feel for the Ferndale football team in 2018. The Golden Eagles will start a new quarterback and reach out to a former QB to run the offense.

Replacing All-Conference 2nd Team quarterback James Hinson won't be easy. It's a two-headed battle at signal caller between seniors Brian Ebe and Sequoyah Julius.

"We'll let that competition continue to play out. They both have done some really good things so far in practice," says Ferndale head coach Jamie Plenkovich. "Fortunately we open with two non-league games, so we'll continue to evaluate that battle."

Helping the process is former Washington Husky and Tennessee Titans QB Jake Locker. The former Golden Eagle star and position coach is now the offensive coordinator. Plenkovich says the transition has gone great and that Locker has already put his stamp on the offense. 

​

There is continuity up front where the lines will be lead by 6'-5", 275-pounder Geirean Hatchett. The junior, who is coming off of foot surgery during the offseason, was an All-Conference and All-State performer last year. Plenkovich has named him a team captain for 2018.

Hatchett is one of the top recruits in the state of Washington. He is being pursued by the top D1 schools in the country. So is the recruiting process fun or too pressure filled? 

 

 

 

 

 

Ferndale faces a tough non-league schedule with games versus defending Wesco 4A champ Lake Stevens and perennial 2A powerhouse Lynden before jumping into their Wesco 3A North slate. The Golden Eagles open the season hosting Lake Stevens August 31st.
