Prep Football Week 9 : Who Will Survive?

October 26, 2018

Four Whatcom County prep football teams are playing for their postseason lives in week number 9.  Blaine, Sehome, Bellingham and Ferndale all face loser out contests.

In the 2A ranks, Blaine will open things up with an early 5:00pm game at Edmonds District Stadium. the Borterites (4-4/2-3 NWC) will play Mountlake Terrace (5-3/4-1) for the second time in 3 weeks. The Hawks shutout Blaine 40-0 on October 5th.

Since then the Borderites have posted two lopsided victories over Cedarcrest and Anacortes. They now have a chance to redeem themselves.

"It's really a unique opportunity, that we're really excited about, because it shows what kind of men we have and what kind of team we are " said Blaine coach Jay Dodd. "What kind of program we have, where if you can bounce back and have a different outcome, it really shows a lot about our character."

You can hear Blaine vs. Mountlake Terrace as part of our Friday doubleheader coverage on The Doug Lange Network. Coverage begins at 4:45pm.

Sehome and Bellingham are playing each other again too (7pm Civic Stadium). The Mariners beat the Red Raiders last week 54-27. The loss snapped a 5-game winning streak for Bellingham.  Sehome has won three in a row and five of their last six contests.

The 2A Lake Division winners move on to district playoff match-ups against Sky Division teams in either Lynden, Archbishop Murphy, Burlington or Sedro-Woolley next week.

In the 3A Ferndale can punch their ticket to districts with a road win. The Golden Eagles play Meadowdale at 8:00pm at Edmonds District Stadium.

Ferndale (3-5/3-3) is looking for their third straight victory While the Meadowdale (3-5/3-3) has dropped their last two. Ferndale coach Jamie Plenkovich is aware of how dangerous the Mavericks' offense can be.

"They're certainly, by far the most advanced passing team we've seen," said Plenkovich. "Anything you can think of they've run at least once in the last four weeks, so we're going to need to make sure that we're sound in what we're trying to do."

You can hear the second game of our doubleheader, Ferndale versus Meadowdale on The Doug Lange Network. Coverage begins at 7:45pm.
