AP Football Poll: Mount Baker On The Rise

September 12, 2018

No additions and no subtractions. The same five Whatcom County teams from last week are represented in the week four Associated Press prep football poll. Mount Baker was the biggest mover in the rankings released Wednesday.

Coming off a 38-19 road win over Cascade of Leavenworth, the Mountaineers (2-1) moved up four spots from No. 9 to No. 5 in the 1A classification.  Elsewhere in the 1A Meridian (2-1) dropped one spot to No. 8 while Lynden Christian (3-0) remained at No. 10.

Those three teams, along with undefeated Nooksack Valley (3-0), will get to know each other very well over the next six weeks as league play begins Friday.  The Mountaineers play host to the Lyncs and the Trojans visit the Pioneers.

Lynden (3-0) is the highest ranked local team. The Lions stood pat at No. 3. Lynden will host the only other Northwest Conference squad in the top-10 in No. 5 Archbishop Murphy (1-1) on Friday.

Lummi Nation (2-0) remains 5th in the 1B classification. The Blackhawks play at Neah Bay Friday at 5:00pm.
