Hatchett leads Ferndale Past Squalicum

March 26, 2019

Ferndale survived a late rally by Squalicum for a 9-6 victory at home Tuesday. Geirean Hatchett paced the Golden Eagles to their second Northwest Conference victory at the plate and on the mound.

The junior went 2-for-4 with a double and 4 RBI's to get Ferndale out to a 9-0 lead before the Storm would even get on the board. Hatchett also struck out 10 batters, giving up 3 runs on 5 hits in 6 and 2/3's innings of work to get the victory on the mound.

Ferndale coach Donny Hennigs said Hatchett keeps getting better with each outing this spring.

"He's starting to throw more strikes and when he's in the strike zone he's a tough AB, because it's big and it's left handed and it's coming at ya and he doesn't always know where it's going," said Hennigs. "It was much improved today and if he keeps getting better, by the end of this thing he'll be a pretty good one."

Keyed by a 5-run, 5th inning, Ferndale's Kobe Sandstorm added 3 RBI's and 2 runs scored on 3 walks. Carson Peters went 2-for 3 with 2 runs scored.

Squalicum's pushed 2 runs across in the 6th inning and pulled closer in the final frame. Josh Boysen hit a two-out, grand slam home run in the 7th before Ferndale relief pitcher Greyson Thompson struck out Tate Carlson swinging to end the game.
