Meridian's Galiano Named WIAA Athlete of the Week

November 14, 2018 

As the Meridian football squad gets ready to play in the state quarterfinals,  one of their star players has been honored by the WIAA. WR/DB Kevin Galiano has been named the 1A boys Athlete of the Week by the Washington Interscholastic Activities Association.

Galiano recorded three interceptions and a touchdown reception last Saturday to help Meridian beat Elma 40-21 in the opening round of the state playoffs. The junior returned one interception 41 yards for a score.  His touchdown catch was scored with three seconds left to put the Trojans up 19-14 at halftime.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

"On defense, I think it has been my best game so far...I owe it all to how we prepare at practice," said Galiano to The Doug Lange Network and WhatcomPreps.com. "Our coach put us drill after drill practicing on breaking on a route, especially those routes, because they (Elma) run them."

Meridian (8-3) plays host to Colville Saturday in the quarterfinals at Civic Stadium in Bellingham. Kick-off is scheduled for 1:00pm. it's a rematch with the Trojans beating the Indians 27-14 during the regular season back on September 8th.
