WCC Hoop Squads in NWAC Sweet 16

The Whatcom Community College basketball teams begin the postseason this week. The Orcas will open up play in the Sweet 16 of the Northwest Athletic Conference Championships at Everett Community College.  

The 4th seeded Whatcom men take on No. 1 South Puget Sound at 6:00pm on Thursday. The third seeded women’s team will play 2 seed Gray’s Harbor at noon on Saturday. Both squads learned their fate with selection show announcements Sunday night. 

The WCC men made it into the tournament after Skagit Valley College beat Bellevue 93-86 on Sunday. The Orcas finished  4th in the North Division with a 7-7 conference mark and a 13-and-13 overall record. South Puget Sound went 25-4 overall and posted the best conference record in the West Division at 12-2. The Clippers are read hot have won their lat 9 games. 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

The Whatcom women went 17-and-9 overall and finished third in the North Division with a 9-and-5 conference record. Grays Harbor went 15-11 overall and their 9-and-5 conference record earned them a second place finish in the West Division. Both teams are riding 3-game winning streaks heading into the postseason. 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Elite Eight games in the NWAC tournament will be played on Friday for the men and Sunday for the women. The Final Four and championship games will be played March 16th and 17th also at Everett Community College.
