WWU'S Daulton Hommes Named NABC All-West Region Second Team

BELLINGHAM, Wash. – Western Washington University men’s basketball sophomore forward Daulton Hommes added to his impressive list of awards from the 2017-18 season with his selection to the National Association of Basketball Coaches Division II All-West Region Second Team.

Hommes (Lynden, WA/Lynden Christian) was one of three players from the Great Northwest Athletic Conference to be selected to the 11-player team, joining first-team selections Tanner Omlid of Western Oregon and Luke Chavez of Saint Martin’s. Western Oregon’s Jim Shaw was named the NABC West Region Coach of the Year. The team was selected and voted on by member coaches of the NABC, with 88 student-athletes honored across the eight regions in NCAA Division II.

Hommes (Lynden, WA/Lynden Christian) was one of two underclassman selected to the 11-player all-region team, joining Cal Poly Pomona’s sophomore guard William Christmas. The NABC All-West Region squad consisted of four players each from the California Collegiate Athletic Association and the PacWest Conference, and three players from the GNAC.

Hommes led the Vikings and finished 2nd amongst GNAC players averaging 18.1 points per game. He became the 16th player in WWU program history to average at least 18.0 points per game (17th instance) and became the 13th Viking to break the 500-point mark for a season during the 20 seasons of the NCAA era (since 1998-99).

The 6-7 forward scored in double-digits in 28 of 29 games, including nine games with 20-or-more points. Hommes completed his sophomore season with 910 career points, an average of 15.2 points per game average, currently 10th-best in WWU history. His 2017-18 awards ledger also included unanimous First Team All-GNAC honors, Second Team D2CCA All-West Region and he was a two-time GNAC Player of the Week.

Amongst West Region statistical leaders, Hommes is 5th in scoring average (18.1), 4th in free throw percentage (87.9%/116-for-132) and minutes per game (34:39) and 5th in field goal percentage (54.6%/177-for-324). He also averaged 6.0 rebounds per game (11th in the GNAC) and 1.3 blocks per game (11th in GNAC). Additionally, the versatile forward shot 44.6% (54-for-121) from 3-point range to rank 5thin the GNAC with the 4th-best single-season mark in WWU history (min. 50 made 3-pointers).

Hommes becomes the 13th Viking to earn NABC All-West Region honors since WWU joined the NCAA ranks in 1998-99.
