State Volleyball: Lyncs & Lions On to Semifinals

The Lynden Christian and Lynden volleyball squads have both advanced to the semifinals in their respective state tournaments. The Lyncs survived an early scare in the Yakima SunDome before notching the victory, while the Lions swept their way to the final four in Lacey. 

1A

No. 2 Lynden Christian battled back from a 2-sets-to-1 deficit to outlast the No. 4 Chelan Goats in 5 sets in the opener for both squads. The Lyncs staved off match point to win the 4th set took the 5th set 15-7 to advance to the quarterfinals. That turned into a 3-set sweep over Castle Rock (25-17, 25-11, 25-15). 

The Lyncs will play No. 10 Granger Saturday at 1:00pm in the first semifinal of the day. Granger got past Kings Way Christian (3-1) and overtake (3-0) to advance. 

Nooksack Valley stayed alive after getting swept in their opening match vs. No. 1 Freeman. The Pioneers rallied to beat Naches Valley in 5 sets (22-25, 17-25, 28-26, 30-28, 15-13). Nooksack Valley meets Lakeside at 11 a.m. Saturday chasing after 7th or 8th place. 

2A

No. 2 Lynden made short work of their competition in two matches Friday at Saint Martin's University The Lions swept Steilacoom (25-18, 25-18, 25-19) in their opener and Prosser 25-18, 25-14, 25-22) in the quarterfinals. 

Lynden plays Ellensburg at 10:30AM Saturday in the semifinals. Ellensburg beat Sedro-Woolley and Woodland each 3-1 to make the final four. 

After a split on Friday, Blaine is still alive and chasing 5th or 6th place. The Borderites won their opener 3-2 over White River and fell 3-0 to Columbia River in the quarterfinals. It's Blaine versus Burlington at 12:30pm Saturday in a loser-out match.
