State Golf: French & Bellingham finish 2nd

Jada French and the Bellingham Red Raiders finished second at the 2A girls state golf tournament Wednesday. It was the highest finish for any individual or team from Whatcom County.  

French shot a 79 at the Horn Rapids Golf Course in Richland. Her two-day total of 156 left her tied for second place with Kallie Nakamoto of Washougal. That was 8 strokes behind the 2A state champ Kenedee Peters of Ephrata. 

Sammamish posted the highest team score of 143.00. Bellingham was second with a mark of 97.50. 

Elsewhere in the 2A tournament Sophia Schmidt of Bellingham was tied for 5th with a 2-day total of 163. Jade ming of Lynden was 7th after posting a 166. Bellingham's Kylie Kruhlak tied for 21st with a 181 score.

 

In 1A tournament play at the Hangman Valley Golf Course in Spokane, Clara Bergman of Mount Baker placed the highest among the Whatcom County schools at 10th, with a two-day total of 168. 

Sarah Kihm of Meridian was the only other local player to make the cut. She finished tied for 31st with a total score of 191. 

BOYS

Sehome's Ian Hakeman placed the highest of any Whatcom County boys golfer. The Junior finished tied for 7th place after shooting a 148 over two-days in 2A state at the Columbia Point Golf Course in Richland.  

Connor Frank of Bellingham finished at 155, good for a 4-way tie for 17th place. 

In the 1A, Noooksack Valley's Carson Linville finished tied for 10th after posting a two-day total of 158 at the Liberty Lake Golf Course.
