Cross Country: Vikings Move Up in National Polls

October 11, 2018

BELLINGHAM, Wash. – Coming off a pair of strong showings last weekend, the Western Washington University men’s and women’s cross country teams have both moved into the national top 25 of the NCAA Division II Cross Country National Coaches’ Poll, released by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).

The women’s team went from being unranked to No. 14 in the nation, bolstered by a 4th-place finish at last weekend’s Division II Conference Crossover Invitational hosted by Lewis University in Romeoville, Illinois. WWU is also listed No. 6 in the West Region, moving up from No. 9 the previous week.

The men’s team went from receiving votes in the national poll to No. 19 after an 8th-place finish at the conference crossover meet, and moved up two spots to No. 4 in the West Region rankings.

WWU is off from competition this week, with the Vikings returning to action for the 45th Annual WWU Cross Country Classic that will be held October 20 at Sudden Valley Golf Course in Bellingham.

The WWU Classic will be the final regular-season meet for the Vikings before heading to the GNAC Championships Nov. 3 in Monmouth, Oregon and the NCAA II West Regional in Billings, Montana.
