AP Football Poll: Big Jump Up for Lynden Christian

September 12, 2018

Four Whatcom County teams are represented in the week five Associated Press prep football poll. Lynden Christian made the biggest move up in the rankings released Wednesday.

Coming off a 28-20 come from behind win over Mount Baker the Lyncs (4-0) moved up six spots from No. 10 to No. 4 in the 1A classification. With the loss the Mountaineers (2-2) slipped from No. 5 to No.9. The Meridian Trojans (3-1) moved from No. 8 to No. 6 after beating Nooksack Valley (3-1) 21-to-14 last Friday.

Expect more movement in the 1A ranks next week as Mt. Baker visits Meridian and Lynden Christian plays host to Nooksack Valley this Friday.

Lynden (4-0) remains the highest ranked local team. The Lions stayed at No. 3. following a 24-21 victory over then No. 5 Archbishop Murphy (1-2) last week. The Wildcats fell to No. 8 with the loss. Lynden will play at Lakewood Friday in a game you can hear on The Doug Lange Network beginning at 6:45pm.

Lummi Nation (2-1) fell out of the top-5 in the 1B classification after losing to Neah Bay 40-34 in Week 4. The Blackhawks will host No. 5 Naselle on Friday.
