Cole Bajema Named NWC MVP

March 4, 2019 

For the second year in a row Lynden Christian senior Cole Bajema has been named the Northwest Conference boys basketball MVP. The conference released the All NWC Teams Monday. 

 

The University of Michigan bound Bajema repeats as the NWC Most Valuable Player after leading the Lyncs to a 26-and-1 record and a 4th place finish at 1A state this past weekend. He was also named to the 1A All Tournament first team in Yakima on Saturday. 

Brett Senff of Anacortes was named coach of the year after guiding the Seahawks to 16-and-9 record and a trip to to 2A state. Meridian's Rob Gray garnered the Assistant Coach of the Year honor after joining Shane Stacy's staff and helping the Trojans advance to the Bi-District tournament. 

State tournament MVP Clayton Whitman of the 2A champion Lynden Lions joins Bajema and 6 other players on the All NWC first team. The 4 others from Whatcom County are Lynden's Christian Zamora, Ferndale's Sequoyah Julius, Sehome's Eddy Hochsprung and Christian Colwell from Lynden Christian. 

 

 

 

 

 

The second team features four local players: Andrew DeVries (Lynden Christian), Devante Powell (Squalicum), Stewart Freeman (Ferndale) and Jackson Short (Meridian). 

Two players on the first team represent Skagit County in Lakewood's Alex Jensen and Taino Ferdinand of Burlington.  Five players out of Skagit made the second team: Jackson Reisner and Wyatt Walker (Burlington), Court Senff and Grayson Eaton (Anacortes) and Jake Thompson (Sedro-Woolley).
