May 9, 2018

The wins were tough to get, but Christian Zamora, Clayton Whitman and Kobe Elsner of Lynden High School and Andrew Devries of Lynden Christian were honored for their play at the Washington Interscholastic Basketball Coaches Association Showcase tournament this past weekend. All four garnered Players of the Game awards during the two-day tourney at Bellevue College.

In all, 8 players from the defending state champion Lynden and Lynden Christian teams played in the 16-team tournament. Zamora and Whitman were joined by fellow Lions Kobe Elsner and Blake Siles. The Lyncs were represented by Cole Langstraat, Bryce Bouwman, Christian Colwell and Devries. The players were divided between two teams in groups of four representing the northwest region.

Zamora totaled 55 points (18.3 ppg) over three contests and earned two Players of the Game awards. Whitman (10.7) Elsner (7.3) and Devries (9.7) each took home single game honors.

The Northwest 2 squad featuring Elsner, Bouwman, Whitman and Colwell beat the Northwest 1 team with Devries, Zamora, Silves and Langstraat in the consolation bracket on Sunday. Both squads lost each of their two games on Saturday.

22 points from Ellensburg High School junior forward Steele Venters led Team Trinities to the WIBA Showcase championship with an 84 - 71 win over Tacoma 4. Junior guard Zach Paulson out of Curtis High School paced the Tacoma squad with a game high 24 points in the loss.
