Michael Butler Named to GNAC All-Academic Team

April 27, 2018

BELLINGHAM, Wash. – Western Washington University junior men’s golfer Michael Butler has been named to the 2017-18 Great Northwest Athletic Conference Men’s Golf All-Academic Team, announced Thursday by the conference office in Portland, Ore.

Butler (Sammamish, WA/Skyline) was selected to the all-academic team for the second time in his career as the junior carries a cumulative grade point average of 3.45 as he pursues a degree in accounting.

In addition to his success in the classroom as a student-athlete, Butler has had a solid junior season on the course helping lead the Vikings to a 2nd-place finish at the GNAC Championships earlier this week. He is 3rd on the team and in the top 10 in the GNAC with a season scoring average of 74.19 (+2.41 to par), recording 6 rounds of par or better during the season. He finished 16th at the GNAC Championships, his 6th top 20 finish in 9 tournaments in 2017-18.

To be eligible for the GNAC All-Academic Teams, student-athletes must be of sophomore standing or higher, be in their second season of competition at their current institution and be at or above a 3.20 cumulative GPA.

The Vikings are aiming for their 20th consecutive trip to the NCAA Division II Championships, with the field for the West/South Central Super Regional at Tascosa Golf Club in Amarillo, Texas announced on Friday (April 27) at 3 pm PT.
