Lynden Christian tops Bellingham in NWC opener

March 23, 2018

The Lynden Christian Lyncs build an early lead and withstood a late rally to beat Bellingham 6-to-4 Friday night in the Northwest Conference opener for both teams at Joe Martin Field.  Shane Whittern's 3-run double in the top the 6th inning proved to be the difference maker as the Lyncs won for the 6th time in their last 7 outings.

The Lyncs scored 6 runs of seven hits with three errors to improve to 6-and-2 overall and 1-and-0 in Northwest Conference play. Bellingham (0-6 overall/0-1 NWC) is still looking for their first win of the season after posting 4 runs on five  hits with four errors.

LC coach Daniel VanderKooi had high praise for the 6th inning blast from Whittern  "He stayed on that ball and he drove that ball deep to center with the win blowing in." That was a huge hit in this game, " said VanderKooi. "We needed those runs."

The Lyncs are next in action Monday when they host Anacortes. Bellingham plays Sehome Monday at Joe Martin Field.
