2A Baseball: Tough day at districts for Sehome & Lynden

May 2, 2018

Saturday proved to be a tough day for Whatcom County prep baseball teams at the 2A district tournament in Anacortes. The Sehome Mariners fell in the district championship game while the Lynden Lions saw their season come to an end.

Burlington scored in the bottom of the 7th for a 6-5 win over Sehome.  Tyson Ross scored the game winning run on a Tyler Henry RBI sac fly to end the district title game at Daniels Field.

With the loss, Sehome (17-7) finishes 2nd in the district and will open up the regional round of state May 19th at Auburn High School. The Mariners will play R.A. Long at 10:00am.  Burlington advances to play Highline at Joe Martin Field at 1:00pm on Saturday.

Earlier Lynden lost 4-3 to Liberty in a loser-out, winner-to-state contest at Volunteer Field. Despite committing 5 errors in the game, the Lions pulled to within one run in the bottom of the 7th with the bases loaded, before Liberty pitcher Chase Archibald induced Carter Parcher into a pop up out to end the game.

Archibald picked up the complete game win, registering 6 strikeouts.

Lynden's season comes to an end with a record of 15-and-8.

Liberty and Mount Lake Terrace grabbed the final two state berths out of the district. Mountlake Terrace moved on to regional play with a 4-3 win over top-seed Anacortes in a loser out contest.
