AP All-State Football Teams: Lions & Lyncs Lead the Way 

December 20, 2018 

The Lynden and Lynden Christian prep football teams just wrapped up incredibly successful seasons and Thursday the Lions and Lyncs were rewarded with state honors. 16 Whatcom County players were named to the 2018 Associated Press All-State Teams. Lynden and Lynden Christian lead the way locally with 4 players each. 

Lynden, who fell to Hockinson and 2A Player of the the Year Sawyer Racanelli in the state championship game, had three players named first team . Offensive lineman Jacob Kettels, kicker Marco Samoukovich and linebacker Bodie Human made the top squad, while quarterback James Marsh was named honorable mention.

Elsewhere in the 2A ranks, Bellingham defensive lineman Christian Butenschoen and Sehome defensive back Jay Travier were named to the first team. 

Lynden Christian, who made it to the 1A semifinals, had four players named to five positions. Dylan Kaemingk took home 1st team honors at both offensive and defensive line.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

L.C. kicker Blake De Ruyter joins Kaemingk on the 1st team, while Sam Faber (TE) and Jalen Apol (DB) were named honorable mention. 

Mount Baker had three players honored. Tight end Waylon Kentner joins linebacker Jay Allen and defensive back Kaleb Bass on the 1A first team.  

Meridian's Adam Kruzich was named first team at offensive line and honorable mention at defensive line. Nooksack Valley WR Evan Neitling was named Honorable Mention. 

Ferndale offensive lineman Geirean Hatchett was the lone 3A Whatcom Player recognized. The junior was named honorable mention.
