WWU Women's Basketball Opens GNAC Play Tonight

BELLINGHAM, Wash – The Western Washington University women’s basketball team opens the 2018-19 Great Northwest Athletic Conference schedule tonight.

 

The Vikings take a three-game winning streak into its conference opener, crossing the border Tuesday to play Simon Fraser University in Burnaby, BC. WWU will host the defending GNAC conference tournament champion Montana State Billings Saturday. Both games tip-off at 7 pm and can be followed online via GNAC.tv.

 WWU leads the all-time series vs. SFU 49-36 and have won 6 of the last 7 games in series.The Vikings split the season series in 2017-18, winning at home (11/28/17) 74-60 and dropping the game in Burnaby 79-77 (2/20/18). 

The Vikings are 4-2 overall and coming off a tournament sweep in the 21st Annual Lynda Goodrich Classic, recording come-from-behind wins over the University of Mary (73-72) and Minnesota Crookston (78-68).

Sophomore forward Kelsey Rogers leads the team in scoring and is 7th in the GNAC, averaging 15.3 points per game. Sophomore Emma Duff tops the squad in rebounding and is 6th in the GNAC averaging 8.3 caroms per game. Juniors Dani Iwami (14.8 ppg) and Anna Schwecke (11.3 ppg, 8.2 rpg) are also averaging double-digits in scoring.
