2A Prep Baseball: Lynden, Blaine & Sehome Take

Center Stage

May 7, 2019

Whatcom County prep baseball fans will turn their attention to Anacortes Tuesday as three local teams play big district playoff games. Sehome will look to punch their ticket to 2A State, while Lynden and Blaine square off to keep their postseason going.

In the first game of the day, the Lions and the Borderites square off in a loser out contest at 3:00pm at Daniels Field. Both teams dropped their second round tournament games on Saturday. 4th seeded Lynden (15-5) fell to Sehome 4-to-2.  8th seeded Blaine lost to Archbishop Murphy 11-to-1.

It's the second match-up of the year between Lynden and Blaine (12-9). The Lions blanked the Borderites 8-0 on March 26th during the regular season. Senior Preston King got the complete game victory, allowing just 4 hits, while striking out 6 and walking just one batter.

In the nightcap, Sehome (15-7) matches up against Archbishop Murphy (17-4) with a trip to the district championship and a state berth on the line.  The semifinal game is scheduled for a 6:00pm first pitch at Daniels Field.

Both teams are hot right now. The 5th seeded Mariners have won 10 of their last 11 outings. Included in that run are district tournament victories last week over Sammamish and Lynden. The top-seeded Wildcats have also won 10-of their last 11 games, culminating in the shutout of Blaine Saturday in the district tournament play.

The Sehome/Archbishop Murphy winner will play either Anacortes or Liberty in the championship game Saturday. The Seahawks and Patriots square-off tonight in the other semifinal at Volunteer Park at 6:00pm.
