BELLINGHAM, Wash. – Western Washington University women’s basketball coach Carmen Dolfo has announced that forward Katrina Gimmaka of Nooksack Valley High School has signed a National Letter of Intent to play for the Vikings starting with the 2018-19 season.

Gimmaka averaged 19 points and 11 rebounds per game during her senior season, helping lead Nooksack Valley to the state tournament. She was named the Most Valuable Player of the Northwest Conference and was a 1A First Team All-State selection. She was named to the WIAA 1A All-Tournament Team scoring 41 points with 23 rebounds in two games, and participated in the Washington State Girls Basketball Coaches Association Senior All-State game at King’s High School’s last month.

“Katrina handles the ball well, she runs the floor and can play both inside and out,” said Dolfo, who will be entering her 28thseason leading the Vikings with 573 career victories. “Her versatility will help us so much.”

The 5-foot, 11-inch power forward was also a First Team All-Northwest Conference selection as a junior in 2016-17 and was a multi-sport start for the Pioneers also playing volleyball.

Gimmaka joins Lynden Christian guard Avery Dykstra as Whatcom County prep standouts that will suit up for the Vikings beginning next season. Dykstra, the 2017 Northwest Conference MVP and 2018 1A First Team All-State selection, was an early signee for the Vikings. Dykstra averaged 11.3 points, 3.6 rebounds and 3.4 assists per game during her senior season to lead Lynden Christian to the 1A state title.

“We are so excited to have two players from our community commit to Western,” added Dolfo. “Both have worked extremely hard through their high school years, and it’s exciting that they can play in front of their family, friends and supporters for four years.”
