WCC Hoops Lands 7 on All Region Teams 

March 8, 2019 

The Whatcom Community College basketball teams landed 7 honors from the Northwest Athletic Conference with the release of their All-Region Teams. The men saw 4 players awarded in the North Region, while the women had 3. 

Dominick Oliveri led the way on the men's side. The center was named North Region Defensive Player of the Year and to the first team. He is joined on the first team by sophomore Tevin Bayne. Former Lummi Nation star Trazil Lane was named to the second team.

Oliver averaged 13.1 points, 14.1 rebounds and 1.3 block per game. Bayne and Lane led the Orcas in scoring with 16.6 ppg. and 16.1 ppg. averages respectively. 

Headway led the WCC women in scoring at 19.3 points per game. Kooiman averaged 17.4 points and a team 9.3 rebounds per contest. Rodriguez topped the squad in assists (6.1ppg) and steals (1.8ppg). 

On the women's side former Lynden High School standout Elisa Kooiman and sophomore Allison Hadaway were named first team. WCC Freshman Carmelita Rodriguez earned All Defensive Team honors. 

Both Orcas squads have advanced to the postseason in the NWAC Championships Tournament. The WCC men (14-13) play Spokane Friday at 6pm in the quarterfinals. The Whatcom women (17-9) open up play vs. Gray's Harbor Saturday in the Sweet 16 round. All tournament games are at Everett Community College.
