Ferndale has a state champion in track and field and he got there by setting a meet record. Tallen Williams won the 3A boys long jump at Friday on day 2  of the 2A/3A/4A state meet at Mount Tahoma High School in Tacoma.

The senior set the meet record with a jump of 23-11.25. Williams, a running back for the Golden Eagles football squad, bested the mark of 23-10.75 set by Rashad Toussaint, of West Valley (Spokane) back in 2005.

Williams easily beat the second place finisher Neal Berkley of Kamiakin and his jump of 22-04.50.

Williams also finished second in the triple jump with a mark of 46-06.00. Javon Gray of Lincoln High School took the championship with a jump of 47-00.25.
