Late Stoner RBI Clinches Playoffs for Bells

July 1, 2018

Jordan Stoner's RBI single in the top of the 9th gave the Bellingham Bells their 6th straight win Saturday night. The 3-2 road win over Yakima Valley also clinched a playoff spot for the Bells.

With the victory Bellingham (17-6) claims their first North Division first half title since the WCL switched to that format in 2016. The Bells are the first squad to claim a spot in the West Coast League postseason. The league playoffs begin August 10th.

Stoner's 13th RBI on the season helped complete the Bellingham comeback after trailing 2-0 early. Cody Pasic and Jack Machtolf also drove in runs on a night that the Bells were held to just five hits.

Austin Weiermiller picked up his first victory of the season. Taylor Davis closed things out in the 9th to secure his 6th save of the year.

Bellingham will look for the sweep over Yakima Valley (10-13) tonight.  Ben Leeper (2-0; 4.69 ERA) gets the call for Bellingham versus Hunter French (3-1; 3.17 ERA) for the Pippins. First pitch is scheduled for 6:05pm.
