Softball: Lynden Christian Heading to State

Whatcom County has another prep softball team heading to the state tournament. A day after Sehome punched their ticket to 2A state, Lynden Christian advanced to the district championship and clinched a 1A state berth with a pair of victories Thursday at Janicki Fields in Sedro-Woolley. 

The 3rd seeded Lyncs won their opener over the No. 2 seed Cedar Park Christian 15-3. Lynden Christian would then lockdown a return trip to the state tournament with a 19-17 slugfest victory in the semifinals over Mount Baker. 

The Lyncs will play top-seeded Coupeville Saturday at 2:00pm for the district crown.

 

Despite the loss, Mount Baker is still alive in their bid to reach the state tournament. The Mountaineers are joined by Nooksack Valley, Granite Falls and Cedar Park Christian all chasing chasing the 3rd and final state berth in the consolation bracket. 

Mount Baker won their opener Thursday 17-to-2 over Sedro-Woolley before fall to the LC in the semifinals. The Pioneers split their two games as well, losing to Granite Falls 7-6 before blanking Meridian 6-0 in a loser out contest. The loss, combined with a a 15-0 defeat at the hands of Coupeville, ended the year for the Trojans (8-14). 

Mount Baker and Nooksack Valley will play each other Saturday in a loser out game at 12:00pm. The winner will play the winner of the Cedar Park Christian/Granite Falls game at 2:00pm in a winner to state/loser out game.
