A fantastic season came to a tough luck end for Sehome baseball Saturday at Yakima County Stadium. The Mariners lost a slim lead late and fell to Archbishop Murphy 4-3 on the final play of the game to take 4th place at 2A state.

The 3rd place Wildcats, who beat the Mariners 6-3 in the district tournament on May 7th,  walked off Sehome Saturday, breaking a 3-3 tie with two outs in the bottom of the seventh. With the bases loaded Brandon King singled to score Anthony Damitio with the game winning run.

The Mariners had never trailed in the contest, jumping out to an early lead in the top of the second inning.  Ethan Brown hit an RBI single scoring Makana Grondin from second. Grondin would score again in the 4th on a single by James Meader.

After the Wildcats picked up a run in the bottom of the 4th on an error, the Mariners answered back with an RBI single from Mel Ketteredge and proceeded to load the bases. That's when Archbishop Murphy relief pitcher Derek Trobough came in and fanned three straight batters to end the inning without allowing any more damage.

The3-1 lead didn't last long. The Wildcats tied thing up in the bottom of the 5th with a 2-run inside-the-park homerun from Josiah Santiago. A scoreless 6 inning would set up the dramatic ending for Archbishop Murphy.

Archbishop Murphy tallied 9 hits in all led by the 2 each from King, Santiago and Trobough. Brown, Grondin and Trevor Seaholm combined for 6 of 8 Sehome hits.

Trobough got the victory on the mound striking out 5 batters, giving up just 2 hits and not allowing a run in 3 innings of work. Patrick Miskovsky took the loss after striking out 5 and walking just two batters.
