Prep Baseball: Lynden & Sehome Clinch State Berths

Whatcom County will have 3 prep baseball teams competing in state tournaments. Lynden and Sehome punched their tickets to the 2A regionals with victories in Anacortes on Saturday. Meridian fell in their district tournament title game at Joe Martin Field, but are heading to the 1A regionals as a #2 seed. 

 

 

 

 

 

Lynden 4 Anacortes 2 

The Lions clinched their trip to 2A state with a late rally to double up Anacortes 4-to-2 in a loser-out contest at Volunteer Park. Lynden broke a 2-2 tie in the bottom of the 5th to get the win. Carter Parcher drew a bases-loaded walk for the go-ahead run and 2 batters later Ben Liboldt scored on a wild pitch with the insurance run. 

 

The win advanced Lynden to the 3rd/4th place game and ended the season for Anacortes with a record of 13-and-11.

 

Sehome 11 Sedro-Woolley 0 

The Mariners locked in their return to 2A state by 10-running the Cubs in 5 innings in a loser-out game at Daniels Field. Sehome struck early and didn't look back as Makana Grondin's 3-run homerun highlighted a 4-run first inning. Jacob Kaepernick picked up the complete game win on the mound. 

The victory advanced the Mariners to the 2A regionals for the second straight year an on to a match-up with Lynden in the district 3rd/4th place game. After winning the Northwest Conferece Sedro-Woolley has their season come to an end with a record of 19-and-4. 

Lynden 10 Sehome 2 

The Lions used big 3rd inning to take 3rd place in the District 1/2 tournament with a 10-2 win over Sehome at Volunteer Park. Trailing 2-1 in the bottom of the third, Lynden turned two hits, a walk and 2 batters hit by pitch into 4 runs. Preston King highlighted the scoring with a 2-out, 3-RBI double. 

King, who pitched the Lions to a win in their first game of the day versus Anacortes, added 2 more RBI's with a single in a 5-run 6th inning to help put the Mariners away for good. Lynden used 4 pitchers to hold Sehome to just 2 hits in the win. 

With the win Lynden will face Fife at 10am at Daniels Field in Anacortes on May 18th in the 2A State regionals. Sehome will travel to Auburn High School next Saturday for their regional  game versus Port Angeles at 10AM. 

Cedar Park Christian 12 Meridian 0 

Cedar Park Christian rode the right arm of Jack Erdman and a 10-hit offensive attack to shutout Meridian 12-0 Saturday at Joe Martin Field. The win clinches a second-straight district championship for the Eagles as both teams head to 1A state next week. 

Edman was out in front of the Trojans (11-11) all game long in the complete game victory. The junior gave up just 2 hits, while striking out 6 batters and walking only 2.

 

Cedar Park Christian scored runs in 5 of the 6 innings played, highlighted by a 4-run 6th. Ben Hann and Jensen Lavering led the offense with 3 RBI's each while Cole Fazio and London Conard both totaled 2 hits a piece for the Eagles (20-3). 

With the win Cedar Park Christian moves on to a regional round match-up versus Columbia White Salmon in 1 A State next Saturday at 1pm at Volunteer Park in Anacortes. Meridian hits the road for a game Saturday against Seattle Christian at 10AM at Castle Rock High School.
