Vikings Move up to No. 4 in National Rankings

April 19, 2019

BELLINGHAM, Wash. – The Western Washington University men’s golf team moved up two spots to No. 4 in the latest Bushnell Golfweek Division II Coaches Poll released Friday by the Golf Coaches Association of America.

WWU was previously No. 6 in the poll, but after a strong finish to the regular season moved into the national top five with 398 poll points. Barry is the unanimous No. 1 team garnering all 21 first-place votes, followed by Lynn and West Florida. West Region rival Chico State rounds out the top 5.

The Vikings have maintained their No. 4 spot in the Golfstat.com Relative Team Rankings, right behind Lynn, Barry and West Florida. The top six spots in both the coaches poll and the team rankings are the same. WWU is tied for second nationally with five tournament victories, trailing only the seven wins by Barry.

Western finished the 2018-19 regular season winning five of the nine tournaments, adding a pair of top-5 finishes and another top-10 in a 26-team field. The Vikings head into the Great Northwest Athletic Conference Championships next week in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho as the team to beat, looking to add a ninth league title to the trophy case.
