Lynden Christian Outlasts Bellingham for Win

April 18, 2019

The Lynden Christian baseball team picked up a much needed home victory on Tuesday. The Lyncs survived a seventh inning Bellingham rally to down the Red Raiders 10-to-6.

Lynden Christian banged out 11 hits and scored in all 7 innings. The Lyncs broke a 3-3 tie with 2 runs in the third inning off a Luke Johnson single. L.C. added three more runs in the 4th courtesy of a Shale Whittern double, a Zach Sipma sac-fly and a Damyn Dykstra single.

Cole Moorlag led the Lyncs with the bat. The sophomore went 3-for-4 with 2 stolen bases, an RBI and 2 runs scored. Sipma, Johnson and Jamison Hintz each had 2 RBI's in the win.

Johnson picked up the victory on the mound. The right-hander struck out 10 batters, while giving up 3 earned runs on 5 hits and 3 walks in 4 and 2/3's innings of work. Jake Terpstra surrendered 3 Bellingham runs in the 7th inning, but closed out the game by inducing Shane Davis into a ground-ball out to second baseman Brevin Zylstra with a runner on third.

Everett Simpson went 2-for-4 at the plate of the Red Raiders. The sophomore tallied 2 RBI's, a stolen base and 1 run scored. Lucas Bogaards and Nick Posey combined for 4 hits, 2 RBI's and 1 run scored.

Lynden Christian (6-10/3-6 NWC) won for the second time in their last three outings. Bellingham (1-14/0-9 NWC) suffered their 10th straight loss. Both teams are back in action Wednesday. The Lyncs play at Sehome at 6:30pm. The Red Raiders host Sedro-Woolley at Joe Martin Field with a 7:00pm start.
