WWU's Anunagba Named GNAC Male Track Athlete

of the Week

BELLINGHAM, Wash. – Western Washington University freshman sprinter Karlington Anunagba has been selected as the Great Northwest Athletic Conference Men’s Track Athlete of the Week for his performance in the WWU Team Invitational.

 

Anunagba (AN-nu-nag-bah), a freshman from Lagos, Nigeria, ran in impressive 10.77 in his WWU debut in the 100m in rainy conditions on Friday at Civic Stadium in Bellingham.

 

The time is the fastest in the GNAC this season and enters the WWU outdoor record book as the 6th-festest in program history. It is also currently tied for 61st in all of NCAA Division II so far this season.

 

Anunagba becomes the eighth WWU student-athlete to earn GNAC Athlete of the Week honors so far during the outdoor season.

  • Dylan Hayes (3,000m Steeplechase) – March 11-17

  • Maddie Taylor (High Jump) – March 11-17

  • Cordell Cummings (Hurdles) – March 4-10

  • Molly House (Hurdles) – March 4-10

  • Raquel Pellecer (Javelin) – Feb. 25-March 3

 

Sophomore Talia Dreicer (3,000m Steeplechase), junior Chanelle Eddy (Discus) and sophomore Seren Dances (Long Jump) were also nominated for this week’s GNAC Track & Field weekly awards.

 

WHAT’S NEXT FOR THE VIKS

The Vikings return to action on Saturday at the Jay Hammer Track & Field Meet hosted by Saint Martin’s University.
