Daulton Hommes to Declare for NBA Draft

Lynden's Daulton Hommes will declare for the 2019 NBA Draft. The NCAA Division 2 Player of the Year confirmed the decision to via an ESPN.com story  Friday. 

 

"I am looking to fulfill my lifelong dream of playing in the NBA," Hommes told ESPN. "I have filed my application for evaluation with the NBA Undergraduate Advisory Committee. After I have received word from the UAC, I will be looking to hire an agent."

Hommes, a Lynden Christian High School standout who had his junior and senior seasons cut short by severe injuries, led Point Loma Nazarene to a 31-5 record and the D2 National Championship game in Evansville, Indiana March 30th.  Despite a game-high 26 points from Hommes, the Sea Lions fell to Northwest Missouri State 64-58 in the title game. 

The 6-foot, eight-inch forward averaged 21.9 points and 5.8 rebounds per game for the Sea Lions last season. He also 47% from 3-ppint land on the way to earning PacWest Player of the Year and Newcomer of the Year awards. He also garnered He also garnered West Region player of the Year, NABC All-District First Team and All America Honors. 

Hommes talked about his dream of going from an injured prep player to the NBA in the ESPN.com story.   

"Because of my injuries in high school forcing me to miss my junior and senior year, I did not envision myself as an early-entry candidate to the NBA draft when I came out of high school," Hommes said. "I started my career as a walk-on, so my initial goal was to get back on the court and play the game I love. After my redshirt season of just practicing and before I had even played a game in a WWU uniform, I wrote it down as a goal that I would make it to the NBA. I have always been confident in my skills and abilities and I knew that once I got healthy, I would be able to chase my dreams."

Hommes got his collegiate start locally as a walk-on with Western Washington University. As a freshman he averaged 12.5 points and 6.4 rebounds. He was named Great Northwest Athletic Conference Honorable Mention after starting all 31 games during the Vikings GNAC Championship season.

 

In his sophomore campaign he averaged 18.1 points per game for the Vikings and was a unanimous selection to the GNAC All-Conference First Team. He earned Second Team NABC & D2CCA All-West Region honors as well. 

 

Hommes is in Minnesota to receive his NCAA D2 Player of the Year award. It will be presented on Sunday at the annual AT&T NABC Guardians of the Game awards show in Minneapolis.  The event begins at 6:30 p.m. at the Main Auditorium in the Minneapolis Convention Center during the NABC Convention and NCAA® Men's Final Four®. The show will be broadcast live on Stadium (https://watchstadium.com).

The 2019 NBA draft will be held on June 20th at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York. The last time a player from Whatcom County was selected in the NBA Draft was 2003 when Luke Ridnour was selected by the Seattle Super Sonics. The former Blaine high School and University of Oregon star was the 14th selection of the 1st round.
