Sehome Soccer to Play for State Crown

Sehome boys soccer made it 18 straight matches without a defeat Friday night. If they can do it once more the Mariners will be state champs. 

Sehome edged Toppenish 2-1 in semifinal action at Sunset Chev Stadium in Sumner. Junior Julius Ellison and senior Morgan Antico found the back of the net to send the Mariners to their first championship final since they won it all back in 2008. 

Ellison scored on a penalty kick at the 10 minute mark and Antico hit the game winner of of a pass from Jon Gunn with 24 minutes left to play. Senior Ben Holroyd won the WIAA sportsmanship award following the match. 

Luciano Martinez scored the lone goal for Toppenish in the 30th minute. 

Sehome (18-1-3) faces a tough foe in the title match Saturday at 5:00pm back at Sunset Chev Stadium. They will take on the defending champs in Columbia River. The Chieftains advanced with a 1-0 victory over  Fife in the other semifinal. 

Columbia River (21-0-1) comes into the title game on a 17 game win streak and have gone 45 straight games unbeaten.
